If you’ve read some of my other articles, you know that I am really into all-natural beauty products, and I’ve been experimenting a lot lately with making my own make-up. Of all the natural aspects I try to incorporate into my life and into my family’s lives, make-up is just one that has been a harder transition to make.
Typically this is because it’s so easy to just buy make-up at the store. But what I’ve found lately is that if you want good, quality make-up, you have to spend a little something on it. And if you have to replenish your entire supply all at once, it can become quite pricey.
Instead, why not try making your own. I mean the cost per product is WAY less than store-bought and on the plus side, a lot of natural substances can be used to make more than one product, saving you even more money, even if you have to special order some of these products. Finally, I’ve found that with natural products, a little goes a long way. The batches last forever and they actually improve the quality of your skin as you use them. You really can’t go wrong here.
Blush
Blush is one of my favorite make-up products because it can literally change the entire look of your face in a matter of seconds. You can go from looking sickly and tired to awake and alive just by adding a little pink to your cheeks. The key with blush is to find a shade that works for you and looks natural so you can avoid looking like a clown.
Use this simple recipe and modify it to get the color you want. Make sure you pay attention to the amounts of each of the products you use so you can duplicate it in the future without having to guess at the amounts again.
Ingredients
Instructions
- You can use either the arrowroot powder, organic corn starch, or mica powder, or a combination of them if you want as the base.
- Start with 1 tsp. of whatever base you want and slowly add the beetroot powder until you get the color that you want.
- Use the back of your hand to test the blush and see how it looks with your skin tone.
TIPS: If you use the mica powder for the base of your blush, it will give it more of a shimmer to make your face sparkle. Keep this in mind if you don’t want this effect as well.
If you need the blush to be more brown, try adding cinnamon or cocoa powder in small amounts. If you need it to be more golden, try adding turmeric. Test the recipe until you figure out what works for you. Store it in a tightly sealed container and make sure you tap the excess off before you apply it to your face so you don’t get too much on it.
